We recently had the opportunity to chat with upcoming singer and songwriter Christian French, who told us details about his goals in the music industry and some words on his recent collaboration with producer and close friend Triegy, Done From The Start, a wonderful Future Bass song that we are sure you will like.
You recently released 'Done from the Start', a beautiful collaboration with Triegy. What are your plans with this release? Do you have anything specific in mind that you want to achieve with this track?
The plan for this release is to just continue to gain some attention. Trieg and I are beginning to get recognized and a lot has happened since our last release and we really feel like we're on the right track. Just like with any track all you can hope for is that others are able to relate to it and feel the vibes that are in the song. At the end of the day and effective song means so much more than one written with the idea of "what do they want to hear".
Listening to your discography, one can say that you're focusing on the future bass genre, while keeping some pop touches. Are you thinking of branching out towards other genres, or is this what you are planning on building your project around?
I think as of right now Trieg are very into the future bass/pop sound. Working with him has opened up so many doors - pretty much any idea I throw at him he can recreate better than expected. I have written a lot of songs with a large variety of vibes and themes that we plan on using. Some are absolute bangers while others will bring you deep into your feels while maintaining that full future bass sound. We are kind of trying to create our own lane and I feel like the way that we make music is something that no other group does. I am able to write and record songs with any sort of feeling to it and am able to send them to Trieg, where he just kills it on the production every time. He has an amazing sense of rhythm and melody. So in conclusion, I would say we are going to continue with this type of music, just kind of branching out with the different feelings we can incorporate into each song.
Do you have any influences that drive your sound? Is there anyone you would love to collaborate with?
I have a very wide variety of influences that drive my sound, and so does Triegy, but most of our main influences aren't the exact same, which is why I feel like we are able to create such original tracks. My main musical influences include Jeremy Zucker, EDEN, John Mayer and Khalid. The way that they incorporate their insane lyrics with very distinct styles is just amazing to me. I wouldn't say I try to copy anything that they do, because I feel it is very important to write and sing what YOU want to, rather than trying to copy someone else, but on that same note there are many ideas and feelings that are sparked from these artists songs.
There are artists I would love to collaborate with of course, some being other singers and some being electronic artists. Singers I would love to collab with include Jeremy Zucker, Khalid, Chelsea Cutler, Blackbear, and more. Electronic artists I would love to work with are Illenium, Gryffin, Marshmello and other artists with the same powerful sound.
Are you planning on doing live performances? Any tours in plans?
I am performing at Wabash College on September 16th, opening for the group Two Friends. Along with this I have been trying to plan out a trip to LA for a performance. The biggest issue right now is material. We are working on so much amazing music but as of right now there are really only enough songs ready to have shorter performances. Both Trieg and I are back in college as well, which makes traveling for performances very hard, but we are going to take every chance we get to perform and spread our sound.
What should the fans expect from you? Do you have an album in mind?
Creating an album is still up in the air. The songs I have written kind of connect and create a story and can be made into a killer album, but right now we are really into releasing singles. Releasing singles ensures that nothing really gets passed up, whereas if we released an album people there is a chance listeners will pass up songs that we feel are very important for the overall theme of the album. All I can say is that we have been working so hard to put out the best quality music we can, and we aren't taking any shortcuts. There is so much more coming and we are both so stoked to get it to everyone.
